The Shelby County Health Department encourages all citizens of Shelby County to get their seasonal flu vaccination. To help achieve this goal, the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program is holding its first ever Drive-Through Seasonal Flu Vaccination Clinic. This event will take place Saturday, November 20th, 2010 at Southwind High School “Seasonal flu vaccinations are one of the most effective public health measures available to us. The Drive-Through Seasonal Flu Vaccination Clinic is a great chance for Shelby County residents to get their flu shots at no cost and for the Health Department to test their emergency preparedness ability to quickly vaccinate residents,” says Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. , located at 7900 E Shelby Drive. The clinic will run from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge, and all participants must stay in their cars at all times. All Medicare, Medicaid, and TennCare recipients must show their insurance cards to receive the vaccine. To help facilitate an orderly traffic flow, all vehicles must enter the Southwind campus from its Hacks Cross Road entrance. “According to the Centers for Disease Control, influenza is responsible for about 36,000 deaths annually in the U.S. The most vulnerable populations are the very young and the elderly,” says Dr. Helen Morrow, Chief Medical Officer for the Shelby County Health Department.
