OPTIONAL SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS STARTS JAN. 30; First Day for Bar-Coded Applications is Jan. 26
The bar-coded Application for Optional Schools will be available for parents to pick up starting Monday, January 26. The bar-coded application reserves a parent’s initial place in line and allows them to submit the completed application using their method of choice. Bar-coded applications can be submitted by mail, online or in person before 5 p.m. on Friday, January 30.
The bar-coded application process helps ensure that applications are submitted and processed in a fair and efficient method. It also helps dispel the idea that it’s necessary to ‘camp out’ in order to get into an Optional School. In 2014, 2517 applications were submitted during the January 27-31 submission window for bar-coded applications. Out of this number, 99.8% of qualified applicants were offered positions in an Optional School of their choice.
“We are extremely honored that parents recognize the excellence of our programs and are always eager to begin the application process,” said Linda Sklar, Director of Optional Schools and Advanced Academics. “However, I want to reassure parents that lining up days in advance of the application process isn’t required for acceptance. We have a great system in place that ensures the integrity of the process and also provides parents with several convenient options for submitting applications.”
The submission dates for bar-coded applications this year are January 26-30. (See specific details below.)
This application process is for students who are not zoned to their Optional School of choice. Students who are currently enrolled in an Optional School and want to remain in their same program do not have to complete this process.
