Position #1: Communications Database Intern (3 months, 8-10 hours/wk) Pay: $10/hr
 
This position is responsible for updating UAC’s contact database, helping to improve efficiency of organizational communications with UAC artists and supporters. The Database Intern will also work closely with the Program Coordinator to digitize paper files during UAC’s office relocation.

This position is responsible for assessing and updating UAC’s database of completed projects, including the Moveable Collection. The Database Intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator and Project Management team to compile project information in a consistent format that can be referenced as a resource both internally and externally.

The Memphis Urban Fellows Program (MUFP) is a year-round initiative that offers local college students the opportunity to intern with various divisions of the City of Memphis Government.  Our mission is to develop the change agents of tomorrow, future City of Memphis leaders, and enhance the interaction of area college students with City government, all in support of retaining the best and brightest talent for Memphis. This is a paid internship which provides the opportunity for growth, networking, and personal fulfillment.

Typical Qualifications

The Urban Fellows intern completes challenging projects proposed by division leaders, which benefits the City of Memphis and the participant through mutual collaboration and input in solution building for our most pressing issues facing government today.  Urban Fellows get firsthand knowledge and exposure to strategies that help shape a more efficient and effective government. Past projects have included input from students on various strategic and administrative priorities including improving neighborhood watch programs, creating an online benefits-management portal, performing analysis of best recruitment strategies for the Spanish-speaking community, and recommend body-worn camera solutions in the Real Time Crime Center.

Minimum Qualifications
Urban Fellow Interns are paid $12/hr for their service to the City of Memphis. Additionally, participants are afforded the chance to earn college credit hours for their participation in the Urban Fellows Program. All documentation required for college credit must be completed by the student, with necessary support from their Mentor.  Interns are expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week, a maximum of 20 hours, to their assigned service centers for the duration of the program.

This internship will be part of the First Tennessee Bank International Operations group.
Position is located in Memphis, TN.

This Internship will provide:

Our Internship program is a 9 week PAID program that starts on June 6, 2016 and ends on August 5, 2016.

HOURS:
Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
(will average 40 hours per week)

The Intern position will support various managers and activities within the department. Primarily, the position will assist with completion of clerical tasks and evaluation of processes. The products serviced by the International Department include:
• Foreign Currency Exchange
• Foreign check processing
• Import/Export document processing (and related international payments)
• Letters of Credit

Will participate in the following projects:
• Consolidation of data relating to processing of Foreign Checks to help create an updated approval process and schedule for future handling of customers’ foreign items.
• Assistance with the format and updating of a database for Canadian checks to help streamline the daily and monthly operational requirements for the Canadian Cash Letter process.
• Participation in an ongoing project to upgrade to a new platform for Retail branches ordering foreign currency. Project includes multiple departments and technology elements in addition to communication and training for Retail personnel.

**2.75 GPA Required*

Qualifications:
▪ Demonstrated ability to use all Microsoft Office 2003 & 2007 applications (Outlook, Word and Excel).
Prefer advanced Excel user with pivot table experience. Access database construction and management experience would be useful.
▪ Good organizational skills, detail oriented, and ability to prioritize tasks. Comfortable taking direction from multiple people.
▪ Strong written/verbal communication skills; comfortable communicating with customers and all levels of employees.
▪ Ability to work independently and as part of a team on simultaneous projects or initiatives.
▪ Good analysis, research, and problem-solving skills
▪ Experience with general office administrative and clerical tasks

For the past 8 years, the Memphis Bar Association has sponsored the Summer Law Intern Program, which seeks to develop and nurture an interest in the legal profession among young people from underrepresented groups.  Students accepted into the program will be placed in law firms, corporate legal departments, or government agencies and are required to work a total of 60 hours during the four-week period from June 126, 2015.  Upon successful completion of the internship, they will receive  $500 stipend during a graduation ceremony to be held in early July.

 

Interns must be minority high school students in good standing who will begin their junior or senior year of high school in August of 2015 and must be legal residents of and attend school in Shelby County.   Applicants previously accepted into the program are not eligible.
