NITC created the Brunch Experience to celebrate the highly successful Naturals In the City Hair and Wellness Expo past, present and future endeavors. This day party style event will be held at the luxurious Avon Acres. NITC Brunch Experience will host speakers such a Brandice Daniel, past faces of NITC and a live muse “I Am Natural” exhibit styled by emerging students in the beauty industry. A photo booth will capture each attendee as the “ Captivating Faces of NITC” and create a campaign throughout the NITC calendar of events going into 2019. DJ Swagg will be in effect to keep the party going!

Help Pastor David Gillard and the Faith Center family feed 20 OR MORE families AND feed another 80 OR MORE homeless. They’re thankful for the people who have already been a blessing!

They want to use half for gift cards for dinner for a night for families and half for homeless grab bags. They literally ran out last time and it broke hearts to turn the others away. Life can change in the blink of an eye for ANYONE; be thankful.

I need a 100 people to sow a $20 seed to help me feed a 100 people this week. Sow today into our outreach movement. The vsion is to supply dinner for 20 families (Dinner on The Kingdom) and feed 80 homeless brothers, sisters and kids. It’s easy to look over this post but it’s also easy to go from eating what you want to eating what you can.

The Memphis Chapter of Black Girls Code invites you to join us for a spirited and lively evening of conversation and connection, featuring some of the Memphis area’s leading voices of Women of Color in STEM.

This event will be an educational experience for girls, between the ages of 7 and 17, and their parents/guardians. They will hear from a panel of women working in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM).

The Memphis Crisis Center is having a big push for new volunteers to meet the growing community need for our crisis line services.  If you are a good listener, we need you.  Our focus is on recruiting EARLY BIRDS and NIGHT OWLS, volunteers who can work morning shifts (7:30 am-1:00 pm) and overnight shifts (11:00 am-7:30 am).

Overnight shifts can be “buddy shifts.”  That means if you would like to work bring a regular buddy (spouse, friend, classmate), we do allow that although they will need to fill out a confidentiality form and other applicable paperwork.

Our next training will be an accelerated training class on Saturday October 14th from 9:00 am-5:00 pm.  The cost per participant is $25.00.  If you have ever wanted to help those who are lonely, sad, struggling, facing a life challenge, or in crisis, this is your chance to become part of the Memphis Crisis Center Family and make a real difference in someone’s life.

The Mayor’s office is sponsoring an event, the 2016 Manhood University Fatherhood Conference, on Saturday, July 9th, 2016. It will be an all-day event held at the Pipkin Building, and Tiger Lane, and is geared towards empowering, inspiring, and celebrating men, fathers, and father-figures from all walks of life!

We need to know if you can assist us by  volunteering for set-up on Friday, July 8th, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, and/or Saturday). As Saturday is event day, if you cannot stay the entire day, (7:30 am – approximately 4:30 pm), please let me know what times(s) you can work. Shifts for Saturday are : 7:30 am – 12:00 noon, 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm

There will be a Volunteer Information Day on Thursday, July 7th, 2016 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in room LL-56 at the Benjamin L. Hooks Library. This will be the session where event instructions and assignments will be given.

The Church Health Center offers free Health Education from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each Monday at 1115 Union. Health Education will teach you how to manage your hypertension, cholesterol, or obesity. It’s free and open to community. Registration is not required. Can’t make it on Monday? We also offer a special session from 9-11 a.m. the second Saturday of the month. Award-winning musician Rev. John Kilzer hosts The Way, a service of recovery, at 6 p.m. every Friday at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1207 Peabody. The Way focuses on recovery, encouragement, and hope. Music is a key component of the service with many local musicians stopping by to perform. The service, which is a joint ministry of Methodist Healthcare, St. John’s, and the Church Health Center, is free and open to the public. For more information, call 901-726-4104.

Together with the National Alliance on Mental Health Memphis (NAMI), the Church Health Center hosts free “With Hope in Mind” classes for families affected by mental illness. Classes are every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. through March 30 at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave. Learn basic tools needed to cope with caring for adult relatives diagnosed with a mental illness, including problem management, communication, crisis planning, and immediate coping skills for illness cycles. March is Lead Poisoning Prevention Month and the Shelby County Health Department’s Lead Poisoning and Prevention Program is committed to educating high-risk communities about the dangers of lead exposure and how lead poisoning can be prevented. In partnership with the Church Health Center, it will host a free Lead Poisoning and Prevention Information Sessionat 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave. For more information, please contact Ariel Laws at lawsa@churchhealthcenter.org or 901-701-2241.

The Church Health Center is recruiting educators, parents, and those working in children’s ministries to introduce children to healthy foods from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 22 at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave. The Center’s “Alphabet Appetite” curriculum is designed for ages 2-5 to build literacy, improve fine motor skills, increase vocabulary, and enhance development. Healthy, happy living begins at home! The Church Health Center will host a Healthy Living, Happy Living Family Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave. Local and state health services providers including Universal Parenting Place, Collegiate Life Investing Fund, and the Memphis Police and Fire Department will be on-hand with information and giveaways.
