Training Classes


BGC is for ALL girls ages 7-17 and exists to bring awareness to the under-representation of women of color in STEM. Workshops are $35 and there are scholarships available and opportunities to sponsor girls.  Please see information below!
Join us for a fun and captivating educational experience where girls will learn about robots and how they communicate in an engaging atmosphere. They will combine hands-on activities using Lego WeDo/NXT kits with live demonstrations from area robotics organizations where the girls will interact with sophisticated robots, and learn real-world/business applications and use for robotics. **Bonus – girls will receive the new Engineering Barbie as a result of one of the newest partnerships between BGC and Mattel!
 
This class is intended for any and all girls ages 7-17.
Check-in begins at 9:00 AM. The event starts promptly at 10:00 AM.
Participants do not need to bring their own laptops. Lunch will be provided.

Small Business Start-Up
Date: Thursday, June 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: City of Memphis Business Development Center – 555 Beale St.
Presenter: TSBDC Staff
This introductory course is designed for individuals who are considering self-employment, or are at the beginning stages of starting their business. This session helps aspiring entrepreneurs asses their abilities to lead and manage a company, as well as evaluate market and sales potential for their products/services.
Developing a Business Plan Part I – Narrative
Date: Thursday, June 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: City of Memphis Business Development Center – 555 Beale St.
Presenters: TSBDC Staff 
Suggested Pre-requisite(s): Small Business Start-Up
This workshop will help you gain insights on why a business plan is important and the preparation needed to begin writing it. Major narrative components of a business plan will be discussed as well as resources provided to help you create a successful plan. Business plan financial projections are not covered in this training.
Developing a Business Plan Part II – Financial Projections
Date: Thursday, June 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: City of Memphis Business Development Center – 555 Beale St.

Suggested Pre-requisite(s) Small Business Start-Up & Developing a Business Plan Part I – Narrative
This workshop will help empower you to prepare your projected financials and will review the Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, and Balance Sheet. Each attendee is requested to bring a completed start-up cost summary.
Community Bank will host a credit workshop on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Davis YMCA 4727 Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis, TN 38116
 
Community Bank Credit Professionals will teach about a variety of topics, including managing your money, building your credit and protecting your identity.
