Marjorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship

The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga is offering one $5000 scholarship for an incoming freshman who majors in mathematics at the University of Tennessee- Chattanooga. This scholarship is worth $5000 over four years. Application information can be found HERE.

 

High School Summer Law Intern Program Sponsored by the Memphis Bar Association
 
Who: Current Shelby County Schools Minority Sophomores and Juniors
 
What: 2018 High School Summer Law Intern Program
 
When: June 4, 2018 – June 29, 2018
 
Why: The High School Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP) seeks to develop and nurture an interest in the legal profession among young people from underrepresented groups, with long-term goal of increasing diversity in the legal profession.
 
Qualifications:
To be considered for a 2018 SLIP internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Be a minority high school student in good standing 
  • Begin junior or senior year of high school in August, 2018
  • Reside in, and attend school in Shelby County
  • Never previously accepted into SLIP
 
Selection Criteria:
Members of the Memphis Bar Association (MBA) Summer Law Intern Program Committee will judge applicants on the following criteria:
 
  • Interest in law as a future career 
  • School and community activities and/or employment history
  • Oral presentation skills (e.g., group interviews)
  • Writing skills (e.g. Statement of interest)

Bossy Is As Bossy Does Scholarship Foundation
 
For 2018-2019 School Year
 
Seeking to award $250 to 2 full-time students enrolled in any accredited 4-year undergraduate college or university. This scholarship is available to all classifications majoring in Marketing, Management, Business Administration, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or Special Education.
 
Requirements:
 
– Have a current GPA of 2.8 or higher
– Complete a 500 word essay. Essay Topic: Explain the importance of (your major) in today’s society.
– Submit an official transcript (electronic copies only)
 
Submission date begins December 1, 2017
 
Deadline: March 20, 2018
 
The recipients of the Bossy Is As Bossy Does Scholarship
will be notified by August 1, 2018.

In order to be eligible for an intern position, you must be currently completing your sophomore or junior year of college this spring OR be enrolled in graduate school. (Rising Juniors, Rising Seniors, and Graduate Students are all eligible to apply). If you are graduating this fall or spring and will be immediately enrolling in graduate school, then you are eligible for an internship as well. FAMU OUT-OF-STATE TUITION WAIVERS FOR IE MAJORS
 
Non-Florida high school seniors, who are interested in attending college at Florida A&M University and majoring in Industrial Engineering (IE), please send a contact name, contact email and contact phone number to tennesseecoordinator@dstsouthernregion.com.
 
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Department of IE has out-of-state tuition waivers they are looking to GIVE, as well as a few other scholarships.
 
Students will need to apply to FAMU, be admitted and declare an Industrial Engineering major. The school needs to give out all of the waivers before November, 2017. #pleaseshare

The Memphis Urban Fellows Program (MUFP) is a year-round initiative that offers local college students the opportunity to intern with various divisions of the City of Memphis Government.  Our mission is to develop the change agents of tomorrow, future City of Memphis leaders, and enhance the interaction of area college students with City government, all in support of retaining the best and brightest talent for Memphis. This is a paid internship which provides the opportunity for growth, networking, and personal fulfillment.

Typical Qualifications

The Urban Fellows intern completes challenging projects proposed by division leaders, which benefits the City of Memphis and the participant through mutual collaboration and input in solution building for our most pressing issues facing government today.  Urban Fellows get firsthand knowledge and exposure to strategies that help shape a more efficient and effective government. Past projects have included input from students on various strategic and administrative priorities including improving neighborhood watch programs, creating an online benefits-management portal, performing analysis of best recruitment strategies for the Spanish-speaking community, and recommend body-worn camera solutions in the Real Time Crime Center.

Minimum Qualifications
Urban Fellow Interns are paid $12/hr for their service to the City of Memphis. Additionally, participants are afforded the chance to earn college credit hours for their participation in the Urban Fellows Program. All documentation required for college credit must be completed by the student, with necessary support from their Mentor.  Interns are expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week, a maximum of 20 hours, to their assigned service centers for the duration of the program.
