Crosstown Concourse Job Fair

Crosstown Concourse will host a job fair event on April 29th from 10 am until 2 pm. The fair will be held in the Central Atrium of Concourse, located at 1350 Concourse Avenue.

Positions offered at the job fair range from healthcare, arts, operations, retail, and security, with experience requirements ranging from none to extensive. Participating tenants will have a limited number of free bus passes available to help job seekers make it to the fair.

TRUSTEE’S OFFICE ROLLS OUT EVENT CALENDAR FOR
FINANCIAL LITERACY MONTH

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – April is Financial Literacy Month and Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir will host a series of free events including financial education workshops, activities for youth and a financial fitness challenge to increase awareness and educate the community.

“There are more than 90,000 households in Shelby County who do not have access to traditional banking and the price of being under-served can add up,” Lenoir said. “Financial education combined with financial access are two key factors in building wealth. We are pleased to partner with community churches and our Bank On Memphis banking partners to provide the tools that will help families build their financial futures.”

On April 1 and 27, the Trustee’s Office will host its Project H.O.M.E. financial education workshops at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church East (1248 Haynes) from noon – 2 p.m., and Ed Rice Community Center (2907 N. Watkins) from 6 – 8 p.m. Project H.O.M.E. was developed in 2010 to help delinquent taxpayers with budgeting strategies.

The Financial Fitness Challenge is a four-week online plan designed to help people focus on their finances. Participants will have weekly assignments to help them reach their financial goals. The Trustee is partnering with First Baptist Church – Broad, Golden Gate Cathedral and St. Andrew AME Church. The challenge launches April 2.

One church, New Growth In Christ Christian Center, will be adopting the successful Mindset of an Entrepreneur class hosted by the Trustee’s Office. The class will be held each Wednesday during the month of April at 7 p.m.

The Trustee is also hosting events for the youth in partnership with the University of Memphis and Shelby County Schools. Below is a full schedule of events. For more information, please visit www.shelbycountytrustee.com.

Shelby County Mayor’s Fight Blight Team

Shelby County Government and other municipalities spend thousands of dollars each month to address roadside litter.  In response to that, the County Mayor’s Fight Blight Team will be working in some of the hardest hit communities this summer.

“I am hiring 100 individuals to work in key areas of Shelby County where litter is a constant problem.  Supervisors will also be hired to oversee the work teams.  Our program will help beautify our community and assist young people and others who need a job this summer,” said Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr.

Quick Facts about the County Mayor’s Fight Blight Team:

  • June 5th – July 28th, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Youth, 14-24 years-old, $9 per hour
  • Supervisors,  21-years-old (minimum), $12 per hour
  • Lunch and work team supplies will be provided

The work teams will fan out across the county to pick up roadside litter and conduct neighborhood beautification projects.  The non-profit organization Clean Memphis will assist with coordinating the cleanup efforts.  “We’re pleased to work alongside of Mayor Luttrell in this initiative to address the growing problem of litter.  It will also remind young people how easily trash damages the image of our community,” said Janet Boscarino, Executive Director of Clean Memphis.

The kickoff event for the blight team workers and supervisors is June 5th at the Benjamin Hooks Library at 3030 Poplar Avenue, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Applications for the County Mayor’s Fight Blight Team are only taken online.  Go to www.shelbycountytn.gov and look for the heading County Mayor’s Fight Blight Team.
