Job title: Ombudsman Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to Ombudsman program manager; full-time, starting salary $16-18/hour

 

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in social service or related field
  2. Four years’ experience in some aspect of long-term care, hospital/health system, social service, or partnering affiliate in an evolving collaborative practice of advocacy and community resources, preferably for the elderly
  3. Two years’ supervisory experience, preferably in organizing volunteers
  4. Two years’ experience working with the community and its social service resources, especially for seniors
  5. Good interpersonal and communication skills
  6. Knowledge of the aging process, seniors, and their needs
  7. Ability to recruit Volunteer Ombudsman Representatives
  8. Ability to work independently on team-oriented projects and goals
  9. Ability to handle client and donor information confidentially and discreetly with experience with HIPAA compliance and other confidentiality practices
  10. Experience managing multiple tasks well in a fast-paced environment
  11. Ability to welcome and respect people of diverse ages and races, with sensitivity to civic and cultural issues
  12. Ability to complete duties on schedule with little or no supervision
  13. Proficient operating communication systems (computer, email, laptop, telephone, fax, scanner, presentation equipment.), Microsoft Word and Excel, and database systems
  14. Proof of auto insurance and vehicle availability to visit nursing homes and affiliated agencies, etc.

 

Major responsibilities and related tasks

Recruit, monitor, coordinate, assist and support Volunteer Ombudsman Representatives in the field, including assistance with their investigations

  • Organize and plan training activities for new and current volunteers
  • Receive volunteer reports and respond as needed
  • Maintain updated volunteer rosters with current contact information
  • Recruit potential volunteers through releases and speaking engagements
  • Respond to potential volunteer inquiries
  • Provide support and assistance to current volunteers

 

Produce bi-monthly newsletter for VORs in cooperation with the communications department, and prepare monthly and quarterly reports for funding sources

  • Maintain monthly log of hours served by volunteers
  • Maintain monthly log for volunteer cases worked
  • Input data to Ombudsmanager and Raiser’s Edge

 

Provide case investigation and information and referral services to residents, family members, and providers

  • Respond to inquiries from long-term care residents and family members
  • Investigate complaints or concerns
  • Provide information and assistance to long-term care residents or others in the community about long-term care services
  • Maintain knowledge of community services and long-term care issues
