Bank On Memphis is celebrating National Financial Literacy Month in April with a series of financial literacy workshops culminating with an April 26 event at Court Square in Downtown Memphis.
Several Bank On Memphis partner financial institutions and credit counseling services will be available to discuss savings and checking account options, as well as tips for credit repair.
The National Foundation for Credit Counseling recently released the results of its annual Consumer Financial Literacy Survey noting that, among its findings, only 40 percent of adults have a budget and track spending. Separately, credit data management firm TransUnion Interactive Inc. noted that the Memphis metro area had the lowest consumer credit score among major metropolitan areas.
The April 26 event is being held in conjunction with the Downtown Memphis Commission’s Downtown Alive! Rain date is May 3. Entertainment at Downtown Alive! will include artists from Overwater Entertainment between 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. Also, the Memphis Public Library’s JobLINC Mobile Career Center will be on-site during the event. JobLINC, a Bank On Memphis community partner, provides listings to available jobs, aids in locating training opportunities, one-on-one assistance in job searches and job readiness workshops.
Bank On Memphis provides financial literacy and financial access through a public, private and non-profit collaboration. The program was launched locally by Memphis Mayor A C Wharton and Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir.
